CHOICE PROGRAMME

CHOICE stands for Changing Her Opportunities, Improving complete existence.  It is a behavioral change communication program initiated by the George Kerry Life Foundation collaboratively with Ms Kesi Howard, outreach coordinator of Magee Women’s Hospital of UPMC, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. The program is supported by IREX, The US consulate, The Mandela Washington Fellowship (MWF) and the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).

CHOICE teaches and motivates women to achieve better health for themselves and their families through health education, health promotion, community health champions training, women support groups, breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, preventive health checks, women support networks and advocacy for better doctor-patient relationships and services. CHOICE was launched in May, 2017 in Idi-Araba community of Lagos state – Nigeria. Our BCC program reached over 250 women in this slum community with and trained 11 CHOICE champions to provide additional support to community women in attaining breast and cervical health.  We continue to reach low income communities in Lagos – Nigeria, targeting Badagry, Ibeju-Lekki and Makoko slum communities for upcoming programs in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
